Unbecoming

Written in 2023/AUG

I’m in danger of becoming unbecoming
Define myself by what I’m not
She remains there while the rest of them are running
Through an empty parking lot

Exhausted and stuck
By drought, the orchard was struck
What I would give to give up
This world I tried to construct

Refused their help
Said I could fend for myself
Another lie I would tell
To make my bed here in hell

There’s this stranger, made a wager on his coming
To terms with everything he’s lost
He is tightrope walking over the equator
Feels every second never stops

At unsteady heights
Tiptoed the edge of a knife
Tripped up on all his goodbyes
Came out as barely alive

No one felt what he felt
About the cards he was dealt
Kept one foot in hell
‘Cause life was such a cold spell

I’m at the age where my future’s becoming less forthcoming
The past stares past me like a stone
All these changes never knock, they just come in
I feel I’m better off alone

I’ve talked enough
To know they’ll all interrupt
As soon as their nerves are struck
By something said off the cuff

Refute what I tell
And that which I do as well
I’ll fend for myself
And make my bed in this hell

About Me

I’m Jacqueline and I’m originally from Western Australia but now I live in Adelaide. I advocate for Australians living with FND, and I hope to return to live poetry performance in the future.

I made this blog because I wanted to share my poems with other people. I’m also working on longer projects, but this website is just for my smaller projects at the moment.

I hope to make a living out of writing someday which is why I’ve put the donation button on this website.
