Out of Proportion

Written in 2023/NOV

I guess things went out of proportion
when you erred on the edge of caution.
Everything you didn’t do
caught up to you,
and it made sense why they had been talking,
and taking things out of proportion.

Something unlatched from the framework,
left you stranded outside your front door.
The grief inspired by a few missing lines
sent you spiraling out of control.
You just wanted to go back to before

I guess it was all a distortion,
our arrangements merged into contortions.
Our thoughts were confused
by the bloodied and bruised
who never found the time to stop talking,
’til our thoughts were no longer an option.

Something unlatched from our nature,
made everything feel far too raw.
The grief inside of our stolen heartlines
sent us stifling hearts on the whole.
It was easier just to ignore.

I guess I was deaf to my calling
when my drive to succeed started stalling.
Must’ve missed my cue
or forgot what I knew,
’cause it made sense why they had been talking,
and taking things into proportion.

About Me

I’m Jacqueline and I’m originally from Western Australia but now I live in Adelaide. I advocate for Australians living with FND, and I hope to return to live poetry performance in the future.

I made this blog because I wanted to share my poems with other people. I’m also working on longer projects, but this website is just for my smaller projects at the moment.

I hope to make a living out of writing someday which is why I’ve put the donation button on this website.
